Identificación y geolocalización de microbasurales en el partido de General Pueyrredón, provincia de Buenos Aires

Abstract

We analyze and evaluate the existence of microdumps located within the General Pueyrredon District to propose measures to prevent the risk that their development entails. Microdumps are sites located within the urban commons or not, with an area of less than one hectare, where solid waste of different natures is deposited periodically or eventually, directly on the ground. The objective of this presentation is to develop the methodology used for their identification and geolocation; For this purpose, reports from the Municipal Department of Urban Hygiene, field surveys, and interviews with key informants were used as a primary source of information. The information was digitized by entering it in the Google My Maps application and then, it was extrapolated to the QGIS software and Google Earth in order to work on the data. Finally, it was possible to geolocate 160 microdumps, mainly concentrated in the peri-urban area of the city of Mar del Plata, and the Las Heras neighborhood was identified as the one with the largest number of microdumps present in its extension. In turn, it was possible to determine that the channel of the Las Chacras stream crosses the neighborhood and is a channel for the discharge of waste that is directed towards the coasts of the city.
